Sky Ferreira live in London

IMG_2128

Yesterday I was so happy I bought that ticket to see American singer Sky Ferreira at London’s Scala because the gig totally exceeded my expectations! I’ve heard a few songs and seen a couple of videos of her but I wasn’t the biggest fan; however, there was something interesting about Sky so I wanted to see her live.

Ferreira came on stage dressed in a leather jacket, leather mini-skirt, leather boots, and, this combination, peered up with a short and messy blonde hair, won some major points from me. Sky was kind of shy and humble on stage and didn’t talk to the audience much, but her performance totally surprised me. First of all, she had this loud and strong voice coming out of her tiny body and her songs sounded way more rock’n’roll than on the recordings. More major points! ‘Foggy’ stage, pink, red and blue lighting, and leather outfit made me feel as I am standing in the New York City bar in 80s and listening to Blondie or some other great pop/punk/rock act. Loved it!! It was clear Sky Ferreira is a new little fish in the pop biz waters because her performance and behaviour on stage were very raw and unpolished, although that was what made the show unique and fresh. You could tell she is not trying to be somebody else and is the real artist inside. Audience felt that too. If I could give her one advice, it would be to stay as she is because that what makes her to stand out.

And the BEAT goes on…

I’ve stumbled across an amazing dance/house music channel on Youtube and couldn’t not share it with the world. It is called LithuaniaHQ , and – as the name suggests – there is work by Lithuanian DJs, mixers and all other beat creators, and it definitely got me listening and I’m usually not a big fan of this kind of music but these tracks are GREAT!

So here are a few of my favourite tracks. I guarantee you will be pressing ‘Replay’ button more than once!

P.S. At the end I put a pop song which also from Lithuania and in my opinion deserves some attention.

Made me to check out a debut album “Night Visions” and it definitely deserved the space on my iPod.

Hope yours too?

Music edit: Icona Pop

Icona Pop is another great Swedish music export! It’s a DJ and synthpop duo currently taking over the world with their great up-beat songs with influences from electro-house and indie pop. Girls were touring all over the States recently and now is time for Europe!

Loving their edgy and grungy style and ‘I love it’ video is totally awesome and was also featured in HBO’s TV show ‘Girls’ which is now showing in the UK as well and I’m in love with it..

Icona Pop is definitely on my ‘Must see Live’ list and iPod!

Find out for yourself!

Music edit: Kat Dahlia

With my Music edit column, I’ll share with you the new artists who caught my attention and, hopefully, you will like them too!

So, today meet a singer – rapper from Miami, USAKAT DAHLIA !!

Her song ‘Gangsta’ is totally my favourite right now. I really love husky vocals and that growl!!! Quite awesome! The whole sound is quite unique too.

Kat was born in Miami but moved to NYC to pursue her career in music and, after very bad and intoxicating relationship, she started recording her songs that were inspired by the experience.

VIKTORIA MODESTA live @ Hoxton! Review + Pics

So yesterday I finally got to see Viktoria Modesta live in action. First time I heard about her from a friend about a year or two ago and after seeing her pictures and stuff online, always wanted to see what she can do on stage. And apparently she can do quite well up there!

THE FACE (supporting act)

The gig was a release party for VIKTORIA MODESTA’S new single ‘Only You’ (which will be released in a few days) and was held at Hoxton Bar and Kitchen in London. The crowd matched the artist; artistic, stylish, alternative boho public was dominating.

The first support act was electro pop singer Johnny Lazer who was followed by 80s dance trio The Face (picture above).

VIKTORIA MODESTA (VM) came on stage with a bang! You cannot help but notice that the girl worked on her image! Unique hair, make-up and costume were perfected to the highest level.

Talking about music, it is quite hard to describe her style. I would probably go for electro pop with an edge accompanied by unique and strong vocals. Good to dance to and nice to listen to!

You can’t get bored watching her. Performance was sleek, sexy and captivating. She is really no beginner in the music biz…

After 11 songs the crowd (and me) was impressed and cheering loudly. You know the real artist when you see one and VM is definitely THE one.

While watching VM perform, I was wondering: why such a professional performer is not known for the bigger masses? And why isn’t she signed yet??

Maybe her music is not 100% matching the material that is now on the radio but I’m sure it wouldn’t take much to get her there. She is also highly marketable and a great performer ( two the most important qualities nowadays) and if I had a record label, I’d sign her right now.
